getting there

El Prat Airport

Barcelona El Prat Airport is located of Barcelona, 20km southwest of the center of the city. It is the second largest international airport in Spain after the International Airport of Madrid-Barajas. The airport has two terminals: T1 and T2 (depending on the aircompany). El Prat Airport receives national and international flights.

We suggest four options travelling from airport to Barcelona center: by bus, by metro, by train or by taxi.

Bus

The most cost-effective option is to take a bus which goes directly from the Airport to Barcelona downtown. AEROBÚS is the official shuttle bus service that connects Barcelona Airport (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2) with the city center (Pl. Catalunya), the trip takes 35 minutes. The bus has stops at the most strategic points of Barcelona: Pl. Espanya, Gran Via-Urgell, Pl. Universidad and Pl. Catalunya as a final stop. It runs every day of the year with departures every 5/10 minutes. You should always check the number of the Terminal for taking the right bus (T1 or T2) on your way back to the airport.

From 5,90 €. The tickets can be bought inside the bus.

Metro

Another possibility is to take metro. The metro line 9, L9 Sud, connects Zona Universitària with Barcelona- El Prat Airport. It stops at Zona Universitària, Collblanc, Torrassa, Can Tries/Gornal, Europa/Fira, Fira, Parc Logístic, Mercabarna, Les Moreres, El Prat Estació, Cèntric, Parc Nou, Mas Blau, Aeroport T2 and Aeroport T1. The estimated travel time is 32 minutes from Zona Universitaria station to the last stop at T1. The frequency of passing trains is every 7 minutes in average. or so, but it can be reduced to every 4 minutes in specific occasions that generate high demand.

From 4,60 €. The ticket can be bought at the automatic machine inside the stations.

getting around barcelona

Barcelona has eight metro lines that can be identified by the number and the color of the line and serve most of the city. It also has an urban and metropolitan rail network, the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC), which supplements Barcelona’s metro network. There are three urban lines: L6, L7 and L8.

The metro operates an integrated fare system enabling passengers to obtain a free transfer from one public transport to another within a period of 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Travel cards

Additionally, there are different types of travel cards and transport passes in Barcelona that are valid throughout the public transport (metro, buses, tram and suburban rail). Options include the T-10 card which is valid for 10 journeys, or day passes (2-5 days). The Tram routes provide easy access to Barcelona’s major industrial areas, shopping centers and residential zones.
